When i came back from Hot Import Nights chicago, all i have been wanting to do is change that factory grey interior to something more appealing. My question is this, how did some of you guys get your car painted. Just post up like what u used, how much time it took ya, what prducts ya used, stuff like that. I would much rather hand paint all my stuff and then like spray a clear coat over it than spray everything.
If i hand paint everything will the paint crack badly? Lead me in the right direction guys, i would really appreciate it. Thx

I'll let Brad and Jared reply, but if you hand paint, you're going to want a clearcoat that doesn't attack your new paint.

i used krylon (all around). first i primed it, waited a day. then i came back and used the colors i want. my advice to you is, after your done painting it all, give it a good few days to dry outside the car. if not, you will put the pieces in and it will come right off. I did mine a month ago, i messed up, so im doin it again. when its all said and done, im goin over it with clear coat.

Ya dont paint your car.
I painted interior parts on a Grand AM I had and it only gave me the rice boy image.. Sure it looks good.. for about the first week.. Then you'll regret it.
Spend time on doing more worthy things :) Like waxing, and taking care of the car ;)

ok, this is what i did, i had the trial and error thing goin on..and i messed up enough to figure out the right way.
FIRST!! Clean the f*ck out of what you are about to paint. Get some armorall wipes or something that dries real fast and doesnt leave any residue for your paint to screw up on.
I suggest you dont paint by hand, you use a spray can and you can get it evenly without stroke lines. The first coat must be very light, dont try to change the color with one complete coat. You go too heavy and the shit will run or have air bubbles that will create more work in the future. Best way to prevent it from running is to paint a surface that is horizontal very lightly. Once that dries completely, go back over it two or three more times and let that dry.
Get some wet sand paper, sand it down nice and smooth, but be very gentle. Any places that show the original color under neath from wetsanding, paint again. Once this is done and you are happy with it, reapeat the above steps with clear coat and/or sealant, only allow more time to dry.
Any questions, class? :booty

Ok... first off you should be prepered to spend more money than you thought you were going to... second be ready to not drive your car for a few days (or more).... ok still hear good. go to http://www.Vinylpro.com buy the SEM Aerosol paint for $6.xx a can (i used 20 cans of white and 8 of black and ran out of black)(plus you need that many clear coat), buy SEM plastic and SEM vinyl prep, SEM soap, and whil;e those are on the way, start ripping the interior out. As your doing that youll see that your staock grey carpet should go... and your stock poop colored headliner needs to go bye bye. go here http://shop.store.yahoo.com/yourautotrim-store/index.html and get some carpet and headliner material... are you still taking out the interior pecies? ok just making sure... after thre paint comes and all of the pecies are out. wash the pecies with the sem soap, then spray plastic prep on the plastic pecies and vinyl prep on the vinyl pecies. then paint in thin coats. after all the painting is done, use lowluster clear on the dash, and high gloss everywhere else. Now look at the carpet that came in a big roll and cry...........
If you dont already get my point alot of time and energy is involved in this. If your going to take the time, use the best paint you can (SEM). If you need any help let me know 488-9368. I just happened to do this my senior thesis, so i have a handy dandy how to manual.... all 60 some pages. Just let me know. And also if you do it right, use the right paint that is and take your time, it will be like mine and not ship or fade. Mine has been in sence april and the only problem i have had is with the ONE part i used crappy paint on. Here are some shots of mine......

im not knocking the paint job at all...and 5 mos isnt that long. you will just have to re-do the paint every so often. if it chips in one spot that is visible to passengers it looks crappy, so just stay on it and keep it clean. the first chip and its curtains. looks good though

Ok here is the story. I went to Autozone and picked up white and black Dupli color vinyl & Interior paint. I also got some 400 super fine sanding pads. I went home and took the rear interior plate which is next to the rear seats and washed them with dish soap, I rinsed it and sanded it with the super fine paperand then dried it off good. I then applied the first layer of white paint to the side panel, looked good then I did another, and it looked good. I then had the speaker covers out and painted them black they looked good. So I left them to sit, I just checked on the panels and they are cracked and all i have to do to chip it is run my nail on it. The metal grates are fine though. What did I do wrong, I dont understand I did everything I should have. So can someone help me out?

use lite dusting coats.... lots of them dont drown the interior peice in paint
that duplicolor is what i used the first time i did my interior and it sucks ass. And a good thing to do with any painting is let dry for 24hrs, then clearcoat, then do the nail test :thumb
like chad stated i have no life so i could help you out.... that is untill sunday thats when college starts... pm me or call my home #488-9368
