Well, I wasn't really shopping for an intake, but after some discussion with Carl at Speed Source (http://speed-source.net/products/evo8_filter_kit.htm), I decided to give his a shot. Considering how pleased I was with the bushing kits, I was comfortable that I would be getting a quality product--he didn't let me down :D

The kit came packaged with the K&N filter, adapter/mounting bracket (brushed stainless very similar in appearance to the steering wheel), instructions and all necessary hardware:

The instructions were a little off regarding some details, but I'll try to correct them as I go:

The first step is removing the stock air box. Start by undoing the four clips holding the top of the box on. Remove top and air filter. Remove the two 10mm bolts holding the airbox down. To remove the air guide, push the center of the clips down with anything pointy and then pull up on the clip itself (do one at a time as they tend to jump up and fall down into the recesses of the undertray). The clamp for the inlet snorkel will now be exposed. Loosen with a 10mm socket or phillips screwdriver just enough to free the fitting. The plug for the MAS harness and a clip holding the wiring to the airbox will need to be undone. The lower portion of the box can now be removed:

The bracket for the airbox will now be removed--three 10mm bolts (red), one 12mm bolt (yellow) and the plug for the BCS along with a couple of more clips for the wiring harness (blue). Remove vacuum lines for BCS. You'll notice the BCS has it's own bracket that separates from the air box bracket. Remove the 10mm nut on the backside to free the BCS (arrow). The MAS will need to be removed from the air box by undoing the 4 10mm nuts--these have some sort of thread-lock on them and are a little stubborn, but once they give, they come right off. Using the provided bolts (you'll need a 3/16" allen wrench) and nuts (7/16"), attach the MAS to the bracket--I used stock torque spec of 80 in-lbs. Also, attach the BCS to the bracket with the same 10mm nut that you previously removed--tightening to 80 in-lbs. The MAS/bracket assembly is now ready for installation. The three holes on the bracket match perfectly to those on the frame:

Slide the MAS back onto the intake snorkel and tighten the clamp to 35 in-lbs. Use the provided washered-bolts (these are longer than the ones removed because of the added height of the rubber grommets) to attach the bracket to the frame. I just did these hand-tight and used blue Loctite to hold them in place. This will allow some flexibility while still securing everything. The two on top were easy, but the third (underneath-red arrow) takes some maneuvering because of the limited space. Reattach vacuum lines to BCS (the sticker under the hood, just above your head will help you determine which line goes where). I initially routed the wiring in front of the bracket, but later chose to go behind it (yellow arrow) for a cleaner look. Plug the MAS and the BCS back in. Slide the filter and clamp onto the bracket and tighten to 35 in-lbs (5/16"). Gather up the left over pieces:

Reattach air guide with plastic clips and you're done:

As expected, you can definitely hear the turbo spool up and the BOV discharge now. My butt-dyno is even less forgiving than Shiv's, so I can't say if there's a power gain. (Note: I took 3 seconds off my quarter mile in my DSM w/o ever "feeling" a difference ;)) Of course, I'd say it's faster, but I have no proof. Regardless, this fit right in with the direction I'm headed with my car and am quite pleased. Next up: DEJON intake pipe :freak

Just curious jamie, but why have you decided to go with speed source products? are they a relatively new company? i've never heard of them before.

Relatively new and somewhat limited in scope (kinda like RM Racing), but they have quality products, great service and very reasonable prices. That combination is hard to find in almost any business. So, when I do run across it, I do my best to support and promote said business.
