alright the intercooler sprayer that the evo has on it stock has a auto and manual setting. obviously the manual squirts when you touch the button, but what triggers the auto?
is it a certain temp the car has to reach, a certain boost pressure, time, what?
i havent heard anybody ever talk about it, does it really do anything like a aftermarket sprayer would?

There are four or five parameters that have to be met in order to trigger the auto sprayer. In reality, it's almost never. To make use of it just plan on pushing the button yourself.

so its kinda like a vtec system on a honda where the temp has to be 160 or more and you have to be going over 15 mph and then you have to have a minumum of 60 psi of oil pressure. then you have vtec.
i was thinking of using the sprayer in a fashion that you would use a water injection system, have a boost sensor and when it reaches a certain psi it is activated. of course having this on a switch of some sort to disarm it.
but the real question is.... how well does it really work? the factory sprayer rather than compressed co2.

obviously co2 is going to be better because it will cool the intercooler better. However, I believe the factory sprayer uses the washer fluid? This contains alcohol, which is better than straight water.
For drag racing, you should only need to spray the intercooler before pulling to the line, as the true reason for spraying is to overcome heat soak. You won't really get heat soak when air is moving over it (i.e. the car is in motion).

CO2 is fine and dandy until you start sucking it into the engine. I remember reading an article about those NO2 sprayers picking up 40+ HP because some of the gas was getting through to the combustion chamber. Not a huge deal at idle, but definitely a concern when full bore.
The EVO sprayer reservoir is separate from the washer fluid (one is under the hood, the other in the trunk), but the manual does specify the same fluid for both. I prefer mine "frozen."
These are the four sensors the ECU is tracking in order to trigger the sprayer:
*VOLUME AIRFLOW SENSOR
*THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
*VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR
*ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR
I don't have the actual parameters, but have run across them and they're all relatively high. When the auto sprayer is engaged, I think it pulses one out of every five seconds. You could rig a hobbs switch or something to be more predictable. I also know of at least one company that can alter the ECU's parameters to allow the sprayer to become more useful in Auto mode.

Or you could just get a menthol injection system. :) Mine replaced the intercooler sprayer and I am sure that it lowers the temp of the intake charge. Plus it give you the octane boost.

Mmmmm... methanol/alky/water injection. I should hook mine back up and do some more "testing" :)

yea i have everything i need to do a water injection, but i was under the assumption that it was for higher horse motors.

Nope, just for those who want to increase their boost, reduce fuel, advance timing and/or reduce octane :)

well i might just have to get the rest of the lines and hook that s%^t up.

I have had mine on for over a year now. I like being able to run the extra boost and I get pretty good horse power with the injection system and pump gas. I have never run race gas so my 11.9 is on pump with injection.
