I was in 6th grade that year and starting junior high in a new school. KISS was the "it" band of those years. Other fads of those junior high years:

1. handheld electronic games
2. "vest" coats with the sleaves that zipped off that most people wore without the sleaves
3. cable TV came to town
4. the put-down phrase "that's ghey"

One of my best friends from junior high could play Eruption.
