Reading an article from a magazine called Diversion, June 2003 issue:
SPEED FREAK
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (or Evo for short) is so ugly, it had better be fast. And fast it is. Thes little 271-hp turbocharged wonder belongs to the crop of factory hot-rod econoboxes that are today's unlikely heirs to the 60's muscle cars. Like the Subaru Impreza WRX and the Ford SVT Focus, the Evo takes a homely, unassuming compact car and modifies it's engine, suspension, brakes, and whatnot to deliver rally-car performance in a street-legal, fully warranteed car.
What's the Evo like to drive? Franly, it's a punishing ride-every bump in the road can lead to a bruise on your backside-and the Recaro bucket seats hold you in like control-top panties, but the acceleration and handling are about the closest you're likely to come to a race car because, well, this is a race car. True, it may seem ridiculous to pay $29,000 for a variant of a car that starts at $14,000, but bear in mind that the Evo can blow the doors off a Porsche Boxster from a standing start, and the Boxter cost $42,600.
