Anyone have any thoughts on Brady Quinn's play? I didn't see the game, just saw highlights on NFL Network, didn't seem to look too bad, but how much can you really tell from preseason games. I hope he is the answer the Browns need, as they've needed some sort of answer for years.

Aside from 2 decent throws, all of his passes were just dumps to the RBs while Detroit was in a prevent defense. He did a good job and didn't fuck anything up but any QB should have made those throws. He needs to play in a semi-meaningful part of the game before I can base any opinion.

The first and second string QBs both looked horrible FWIW so maybe he'll get a chance to play in the next game when it counts.

I may be way off here but it is something that I have thought about in the past. It is my understanding that there are numerous guys playing in preseason games trying to make the roster. With that said I know if it were me, I would be doing everything in my power to play well so I could make the team. I understand that some of the guys just wont have the raw talent to make it but I would have to think that a preseason game maybe meaningless to us but not for the guys that are trying to make a roster.

What are your guy?s thoughts on this?

You're right. The game may be meaningful to the guys out there but it still doesn't erase the fact that most of those guys won't be on the Lions roster when the season starts. So Quinn (who will be on the roster) really shouldn't be evaluated with the same personel on the field.

However, it is more about the defensive formations that they're in. They were in a prevent defense. You would think that teams wouldn't practice the prevent so that they could evaluate talent under a normal base defense. But, I guess you have to practice everything.

Yeah, that surprises me that they ran prevent. The outcome of the game does not matter, but you are right that the play itself matters to those trying to make the team. One would think the defensive guys trying to make the team would be begging to not play prevent, but maybe the defensive coaches are looking for additional DBs to play the nickel and dime packages.

But excellent points, we'll see how he does against a real defense. He is good on camera, he's got his cliche's down, etc. "No matter what level you play at, it's still the same game." All I could think of when I heard him say that was Bull Durham. "You gotta take it one game at a time." "I'm just happy to be here."
