View Full Version : Weird problem, hard to describe

OK, I saw Jay C. on 270 this morning, so just being a goof I did a pseudo-pull (Basically I dropped down to 4th and went WOT until my WG opened, then let off). As I am about to let off, I hear a loud pop. Sounded like fuel cut, but didn't feel like it at all. Well, after that, it won't go over 11psi, and when it gets there it falls on it's face. I can hear the turbo spooling fine.
My first thought was an i/c pipe blew. Then I thought maybe a vacuum hose to the BOV or wastegate.
I popped the hood in our lot here at work, and everything looks fine. I have no idea what happened, any ideas what it could be? I realize it's a crappy explination, but I don't know how else to describe it. It runs fine until I hit over 10 psi. HG maybe? Might be time to spend some money on getting my spare head done, then throw that on if that's the case.

compression test it :)
Other than that it would seem like an IC piping case :confused

Sounds like an intake hole/crack somewhere. It's small enough to allow you to build "some" boost.

It just seems weird, you know? Every pipe feels and looks tight. I'm going to go out at lunch and try and check a little better. I agree, though, it sounds more like a pipe problem somewhere, I just don't know where.

boost leak test it . How loud was the pop?

oh, it was pretty loud. It sounded like a pipe blowing off. I think I'm freaking out about a small problem. It's probably a loose coupler somewhere that is opening up when enough pressure is applied, thus just killing it. Then once all my boost has leaked out, it builds up again, etc.

with a turbo of that magnatude it would not be hard for it to build 11 psi even with a pretty significant leak.

Ya if my little 14b had a leak... it would be DONE for :down

yeah, It was just worrysome, ya know? I'll figure it out, at this point I feel better about it, it's got to be a leak somewhere. I just needed the words of assurance. :) I did check my max Karman after that, highest I've had, 2300. Highest I ever saw on the t25 was 1300. :)

Check all the couplers. It sounds like one may be torn, but won't open until an appropriate amount of pressure builds up.
