Symptoms:
RPMs drop to zero on your APEXi AVC-R display when you take your foot off the gas pedal while cruising. This happens at the same time the LED disappears off of your A/F gauge because your injectors have shut off.
RPMs spike up quickly and come back down to normal whenever you go from light throttle to Wide Open Throttle.
Resolution:
This is not really a problem. The installation instructions for the APEXi AVC-R allows you the choice of installing the purple wire to 2 different sources. If you connect the purple wire to the Tachometer (RPM) wire on the ECU, then you will be getting correct RPM values on your APEXi AVC-R display. If you choose to connect the purple wire to the Injector signal wire on the ECU, then you will experience the symptoms as described above. The purpose of using the Injector signal wire is to allow you to view the Injector Signal on the APEXi AVC-R display (but now with erratic numbers on the RPM display). The APEXi AVC-R Instruction Manual issues a warning on Page 53 that the Self Learning Mode will be limited when you connect the purple wire to the Injector signal. It is advisable that you never connect the purple wire to the Injector Signal.
