Yesterday I replaced my turbo, tightened up my belts, and resat my fuel pump to make sure the o-ring was doing its job.

Problems:
1) I have boosted once since I replaced it and I again saw a puff of white smoke in my rearview. I saw this in the days before I killed my last turbo.
2) My belts wont stop sqeaking until my car warms up. I tightened the power steering belt which was a bit loose. Both are pretty taught now but the obnoxious squeeking will not cease. I did have an oil leak on that side of my valve cover but I fixed that and sprayed the area down with brake cleaner. The brake cleaner fixed it for 1 short drive.
3) If my car sits for a number of hours especially over night it takes at least 5 cranks to get it to fire. When it does fire and run, If I depress the gas within a few minutes it will die. If I shut it off and restart it, it fires right up. This is usually a sign that the oring where the fuel pump sits is buckled or ripped. Mine is fine.

What I know I need to do:
Compression check... maybe leak down. What else might I do to try and resolve these problems before the winter strikes?

comp test yes. Maybe your burning coolant or oil? Hopefully NOT.

BUT you did you a metal HG.. and ya never know..

Are you available like rite now? Ive got Mike Cs comp tester in my back seat.. we could test your car.

As far as belts.. If they are tight, let them squeek till they a.) break b.) dont squeek anymore! You could try some of that belt dressing stuff.

Sprinkle some Ajax powder on the belts while running ;) Never done it, but hear it's a good fix for the pesky, squeeky, tight belts.

im trying to run that through my head here....what in the world would ajax do?

simply clean it?

My understanding is that the powder will slightly texture the belt and allow it to better grip the pulley. Chances are the belt is glazed (either from the leaking oil or the heat from slipping).

compression test results:

145 . 125 . 130 . 155

the 155 had quite a bit of oil on the plug, that no doubt uped it higher than it really is.

So now the question is: head gasket or rings.

Sunday I will be removing the motor, redecking the block measuring the head to make sure it hasnt warped already. Replacing the metal POS with an OEM. Changing the tranny fluid and fixing the shady shit on my car.

If this doesnt fix it for good, my relationship with this car is over.

Juding by the oil on all the plugs.. Ide say rings but we wont know till we put some oil into the cycls.

Put oil in.. compression goes up... Booooo
Put oil in.. stays the same... better than rings.

Blows "smoke" when he hits boost.. But not really till he does. Which would be oil blowing by, onto the plugs.. making smoke.. But doesnt really smell like smoke heh. But would make the plugs nice and wet when we took them out.

Jamies "Box o' bolts"
My "donated to b&h copper seal" back for a day

Me and Jamie had my tranny AND engine totally removed in about 4 hrs. Thats the record to break now.

One step at a time of course, need to drop some oil into there first and see where it leads.

Ken....you can borrow both my engine hoist AND my engine stand.

I suggest B&H buying their own engine hoist. I know where you can get one exactly like mine for $120.00 (with different colors). Try the next Parts Swap at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield Ohio - right off of I-70. There is one more coming up here real soon on Novemebr 8th & 9th. I had a co-worker that went there last month and that was what the price was on this "double-pumper" with the legs that fold up.

If anyone else wants one it might be a good idea to just take a truck and get several of them.

The longblock will be out by the weekend, sunday = taking the balace shafts out and checking the other bearings/crank play.

Will the B&H garage be available for a quick block tear down and rebuild?

how quick is quick?

We just finished Mike's 1g, and we did Jeff's camber. As far as I know, that's it for projects. We could probably help, but we'd have to talk about it with the whole house.

where does the coolant and oil supply for the turbo coming from(the head right?) Stas' car like to shoot white clouds, and ate turbos probably because of bad coolant/oil feedlines from the head....and, BAH who needs compression.l :down

quick = 1 day

I basicly just need to put it on a stand.

-Balance shafts out, eliminator kit in
-Head off, gasket replaced with oem
-inspect oil pump
-check tolerances of anything that could cause that kind of vibration
-check lifters

I really dont think there is a fatal error that wont be fixable. Im confident that the balance shaft removal and oem head gasket will fix er right up.

Worst case scenero is that I decided to redeck the block, then I might ask for another day with the stand, but I wouldnt need to leave anything there over night.

Like I said, its just the motor which is almost out of the car already...not the whole car. But if its a problem, I can do it in the grass in my parking lot.
