View Full Version : Another "want to upgrade suspension" question

Well before winter hits i want to bust out a better suspension. My goals are to lower the car, and make it ride nice. Nothing too fancy either, just wanna it to look sick and stop making a loud bamm! everytime i hit a rock or divit in the road. ( btw i think my rear shocks are messed up anyways) I plan on doing this by going springs and shocks, i don;t have money for coilovers plus i don't need the hieght adjustment anyways.
So how does this sound for a set up? EIbach Sportline with kyb agx adjustable gas shocks? plus a camber kit.... not sure what yet
Does anyone have away to get these somewhat cheaper than factory price? Hook me up please haha. Anyways post your comments let me know what i could possibly do or what to do. Any help would be appreciated

i can get the eibachs, but no kyb's..if you like i can get a good deal on tokico illuminas or the Koni's..both adjustables like the agx's..as far as camber i can get ingalls and progress tech kits, plus eibach makes a camber kit too, thats what i have on my car..let me know if you need some prices on these, i'd be happy to call for ya :thumb

ditto...even RRE says that they will get you AGXs if you REALLY WANT but they dont recommend them for a 2g.....something to do with their inability to cover a range.

Supposedly the shock housing is too long on the AGX's. I researched it a bit before I bought my Koni's. I talked to both RRE and KYB themselves. Evidentally they redesigned the shock and now it will work, but according to KYB only to a 1.3 inch drop. Anything lower and they say you won't be covered by warranty.

koni's pretty much best you can buy.... illuminas are great priced and i think they perform wonderfully I dont know the diff between them both..(rebounding and what not) but there both awsome.
I had the KYB adjustable's on my 2g. They never worked well for me. But I also had APC springs ( I think that's what they were) which I think was the real problem. I switch to Koni adjustables with Skunk 2 springs. It was the best thing I ever did for that car! BTW I still have those KYB's sitting arround in my garage if anyone's interested. Great sales pitch huh?

Can you get prices on an egt guage and probe too. I have ultralite guages and wanted to keep them all the same. So what can you get for the guage and probe?
Thanks
MrBlunt

88.25 for the guage..i'd personally go w/ a TRE probe, much much faster reacting

Next probe I buy, if I ever need another, will be a Westach. Heard they are more accurate than the TRE, and just as fast. Can find those for around $35 or so.

I was a victim of the KYB AGX shocks. I hit a hard bump one day and the front shock got driven down through the lower support...later when I removed the shock and held it next to the stock one, I noticed the KYB AGX shock "body" was an inch or more longer in length.
If "I" had installed those KYB AGX shocks, it would have never happened. After I would have removed the stock shock, I would have compared it against the new one and had enough common sense to stop there.
So basically, I paid for 2 sets of aftermarket shocks on my car to get to the good ones. I would have rather just burned the money than to have wasted it on the KYB AGX shocks. :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :cuss :cuss :cuss

I don't recommend the Pro Kits. They sagged REAL BAD on my car. The H&R equivalent spring I think is much better and doesn't sag.
H&R Springs Stage 1 OE Sport (1" drop front and rear)
Take a look at my car next time you see it and see if you like the drop.

sportlines for me please.

Ok, so I know someone who is contemplating getting rid of his sportlines and I was just wondering what else would I need to put them on my car? Do I need to get new shocks too? Do you have to have a camber kit?
BlackEclipse

You definitely need camber kits and shocks. Without the proper shocks, your riding experience will SUCK. It will probably be bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy.

Evo's have stiff suspension :)

Setup:
I have tokico blues and skunk 2 coil overs
Ive always suspected that the spring rates for the coil over springs were not right, but i never really checked them.
My problem:
I Have a bouncy ass ride. No so much on single or pot hole bumps. I perform like a champ on those. On freeway dips at high speed, ESPECIALLY when there are bridge like dips, when the first makes you bounce up and the other side of the bridge bouces down... that fucks me up... as in bottoms out the shock or the car.
Question:
Could this be because of shitty springs, or are my tokico blues screwed?... the same ones ashley is using on her dropped to hell car.
The End.
BlackEclipse
10-16-2003, 11:36 AM
bouncy always means the shock is not strong enough to dampen the spring. Since you can't really change out the spring (because they don't come in different spring rates for our cars), it is easier to just get an adjustable shock and hopefully one of the settings will match the shock up to the spring.
My car does not bounce. it feels like a stock ride.

It almost sounds like you need to raise your car back up to get some more travel in there. Remember, this is Columbus, home of the bad pot-hole-ridden roads.

its almost at stock height, has been for a while.
What im saying is: I think the springs I got might in fact not be for this car.
