who knows about salvage titles/auto body

Easy and straight to the point I found a great deal on a vehicle, but it has a salvage title. That does not worry me as much as the damage ill have to fix does. Basically the car was totalled out and bought back from insurance. The rear panel behind the driver door has some damage from another vehicle where there is about a 10" tear in the metal leaving bare/sharp edges exposed.which from what I'm told will not pass insepection as it is.my questions is once they inspect this after repaired what are they looking for? Just the sharp edge of the metal to be gone? Can I just slap bondo on? Can I screw down some sheet metal over the "tear" then maybe some bondo?Its not important to me at all what the outcome will look like either.
All in all in trying to do as little as possible fixing but still need it to be legal. I may break the cost of the car buying bondo and supplies.
Any information would be awesome. I couldn't find much info when I looked around.

I believe it has to be returned to origanal pre collision condition. That would be a good one for phil to answer though.

I have redone a totalled truck before and they do want the sharp edges removed. Also any parts you buy they want receipts for them unless this has been changed. The whole process is not hard at all. Good luck.

Its not pic worthy either looks like the rst rkt, but red with cf hood. Bone stock except the full exhaust.
I got the car to get me around(and a hell of a deal and liked it being stock) and because I know about it and its fun to drive. Ill post pics when I get another galant;)
I may take pictures later, just for any of you who may want to buy it.seriously.
Until them I'm off to sell my bov,clutch and injectors, making sure I'm not "back in the game" ;)
Did I mention I'm trying to hit 300k miles on this motor, its almost there and still pulling strong!
