I am going to look at a conquest tomorrow. It has no compression in cylinder 3. Stock motors are junk on these anyway so if I buy it, I am buying it with the intention to swap motors. Problem is, I don't know if I want to swap the 4g63 in there or go with something like an ls1. Either way the transmission will be a th350 or th400, but with an ls1 swap I don't believe I would need the $350 buschur adapter plate.

Has anybody swapped motors into these and if so, can you elaborate on your experience?

I don't think there is anyone around here who has swapped the motor in one. The only person around here that I know that has owned one was Dan Weaver.

From what I have seen, they are pretty rare. I have seen less than 5 in my life in person. I am hoping to get out of work early enough today to make the 3hr drive to go see this thing before the guy has to be at work. From what I have been reading on the internet, people have swapped about every motor imagineable into these things but the 4g63 seems to be the most popular and that's probably what I would lean towards since I am familiar with this motor.

I remember Dan the Man's Conquest. It was a fun car to drive around in. I don't know much about them but his seemed to pull decently (for stock) back in the day and I don't think he had done much to it. I liked that car a lot. If the thing is a good enough deal I'd say go for it. But you know me... ;)

Went and looked at it yesterday. Some faded paint from the TX sun, but other than that the body was pretty straight. No huge flows on the body. Interioir needs cleaned but for 25yrs old I was impressed. I will probably go through on the purchase. Now I just need to find someone to help me with the whole 4g63 swap. Here are some pics.

Wish it was that simple ha ha. With the 4g swap you have to have custom motor mounts and that comes after you decide which transmission to use. Once the transmission is decided, you gotta drop $300-$600 on a custom bellhousing. Ish gets time consuming and expensive. May be worth the investment though. My 1G should be finished withing the next 2 months here since my wife and I close on our house on Tuesday, I will finally have a garage.

I think the front rims are 7" and the rear's are suppose to be 8" so you cannot rotate the tires/rims front to rear. Or maybe it is 8" in the front and 9" in the rears?

I didn't measure but I want to say 8 in front and 9 in back...I could be mistaken though

Im pretty sure that kenny said that the motor mounts for the 4g63 all you need is two left conques/starion mounts...

What transmission was being used? The transmission will dictate what kind of mounts need to be used/made for everything to fit properly.

Here is a really interesting thread.

I guess this guy Bill is a real pioneer in the conquest/starion field. Builds custom bell housings and such for people doing 4g63 swaps.

IIRC there are 2 types of 1g 4g63's. One has a slightly wider block. I want to say the starion/quest trans bolts up to them using a fwd flywheel/clutch. I remember reading it on starquest forums one day. Previous poster was correct about using 2 of the same side mounts as well.

my buddy used a d50 trans and just made custom mounts to bolt to the dsm block and to the trans used a dsm flywheel with a d50 clutch Im pretty sure Ill have to call him later and make sure.

I know a lot of guys are using the 4g64 wide block from the d50/mighty max that supposedly bolts right up to the stock starquest trans. This is most likely the way I will go, 2.4L block with 2g dsm head.

Well, don't I feel salty...just made the reservation for the trailer to pick up the conquest and 5 minutes later I got a text from the guy stating he couldn't sell the car, he decided to keep it. That sucks. Especially since I drove 3hrs to go look at the thing. Ohh well. Looks like my dreams of putting together a 4g63 conquest are on hold until I can come across another good deal...if that ever happens.

Just wait a few more months when the guy gives up a 2nd time and is trying to sell it again.

That's what Ima have to do. Though his buddy I guess has built some really nice ones so with his help he may not give up...we will see. I am in no hurry as I have my Talon.
