I decided to put a 7" Diamond star in red on my fmic, and i hate it. I used engine high temp paint. Its obviously inside the fins, so i need something that will penatrate without discoloring the aluminum. anyone know of a product and/or a procedure to fix my ricefuckup.

You realize, the wrong kind of paint will actually insulate the intercooler and it will lesson the effect it has on cooling the air.

OFF TOPIC

I've seen this discussion path about 100 times on DSMtalk. I highly doubt a light coating of paint in the shape of a diamond star will really have any noticable effect on cooling.

Swaintech does offer a black body emitter coating to cover the whole FMIC if anyone is interested, and it seems the most accepted way of coloring an IC is by anodizing. For those that don't know, anodizing is a chemical treatment and does will not insulate/coat.

All 3 forms of heat transfer apply to an intercooler
1) conduction - metal to metal (solid to solid)
2) convection - metal to fluid (in this case air is the fluid)
3) radiation - black body type of transfer

Paint will adversely affect #2 directly because it's 0.003 to 0.008" thick and will act as a thermal barrier. BAD.

Black will adversely affect #3 because black absorbs heat. While the inside of your intercooler is bare metal and will be the color of aluminum it will not be affected by the color of your black coating. But the ambient air that is trying to extract heat from your intecooler will be affected. Instead of reflecting off a light surface, it will radiate towards the black and keep the intercooler temps higher on the black surface.
