Little bit of an idea.

Timing belt motor mount. Without the power steering pump, the usefulness of the extension that comes around to the exhaust side of the engine seems to be in the way. 2g timing mount is only on the timing side also. So, cutting the extension off the mount would free up some more space in the engine bay.

Thoughts?

there are like 600 things you can do to clean it up before you get into modifying motor mounts.

I see he put the alternator back in stock location. Talking with him at the shootout, he said, "Don't do it if you ever plan to put it on the street."

Mine's pretty empty also. And since I no longer have power steering, the thought came up to remove the motor mount bracket. There isn't much left to remove from mine that either doesn't involve hours of rewire, or doesn't involve $600.

Cutting that mount's J-extension would take about 10 minutes, and save that much weight and space.

That's an older pic I got off his page, the Hot Rod mag has a newer pic, with the Alt in the back. I'm assuming it's newer anyway, because it has 4 nitrous ports rather than the single one.

so you are gettin rid of the timing belt side motor mount?

Not the whole mount. Just the part that wraps around the engine. The mount, and the two firewall side bolts would still be there. The thought is that it will be exactly like the 2g timing belt mount then.

Here's a picture of what I am talking about. You can see the missing lower section of the mount, with the two bolts closest to the fire wall still inplace.

I think I know what you mean but I'm not exactly sure. 1 point. Eliminating the power steering on a 2g is not very easy since there were no 2gs that came with manual racks to do a conversion. I've heard of people taking the pump out and just basically looping the lines for some lubrication in the rack but the driveability is aweful.

besides taking shit out, i like to hide things in my engine bays...

run down of new car...
removed power steering, romoved all powersteering brakets, lines, fluid holder, mm j will be cut down to size like the one in this thread. removed front motor mount braket, all ac and lines and cooler are gone, balance shafts removed, cruize control removed with custom throttle cable, all emmisions removed, 1 fan, various brakets on firewall, un needed brakets on tranny, intake manni bracket removed, re-routed all wires to be vartually unseen, and eventually putting the battery in the back. :thumb

mike C - kortina is using a 2g as an example of why the 1g has an unneccesary continuation of the motor mount that supports the power steering. he has a 1g and has removed his PS

if you are that bored and that concerned with clearing out the engine bay, go for it, i know i have a long list of things to do before i start worrying about that kinda stuff, "washing" and "clean" are not in my dictionary

"beeater", "leak", and "noisy" definitely are

uo not ou ill remember that... my bad.

yes tricks are hard to turn with small arms...

all you gotta do is hit the gas when you turn...you have AWD... try PS removal on a FWD...lol
