What is it? Never heard of it. Is it something I should look for when buying my new computer (which I'm currently searching for a nice laptop for sub $1200 if you know of any)

You won't find linux installed on any new computer you buy. :) It is an operating system (like Windows XP, Windows 2000, etc.).

Here is a site where you can learn a little bit about it. http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/ I have it installed on one of my computers, but it does nothing but sit there. I really need to break down and learn how to use it.
