I'll be buying a new monitor in the next month and have no idea what i should get. I plan on playing a few more games than in the past. Finally got hooked on CS. I already have a system to support it, but don't know first hand how slow reacting a lcd is compared to crt. I also don't know how big of a monitor i realisticly need. I usually don't skimp on pc stuff, so I don't plan on it with this. Any and all opinions welcome.

Well, if you don't want to skimp, LCD or plasma with DVI would be the way to go. If you don't want to spend the money on a DVI monitor, go CRT. You want DVI if you are going to be gaming on it.
Otherwise, I would get at LEAST a 17" Flat screen CRT, that's what I have. My next monitor will be a 19", though.

I've had my eye on this. My only concern is the 25ms response time. I've been told that causes problems at high resolutions during game play.

I'm pretty sure that has to do with RGB connection. As long as your video card has DVI output, use that. Digital Video is much better. :)

stick with the crt ones... for the $$ you'd throw down on a LCD is just insane. i'm sitting on a 21" flat screen and with my video card i can really max out the refresh rate.... i havent gamed much lately but this set up is sweet with games... i have surround sound etc... i use to play TFC, CS, diablo, warcraft2, starcraft, diablo2, Nox,Tribes, Vampire the masquerade.... only thing killing me still is damn dialup....

If it were me, I would still go with 18" or 19" CRT. Faster refresh and can be seen from all angles. Make sure you get a good name brand monitor. I use my 18" Mag over my 19" Daewoo (even with the res turned down on the 19 it looks crappier than the 18 at higher res). Your best bet would be going to stores and cranking up the res and refresh rate on the actual screens there and see what they do and how they look.

To hell with new. To hell with any CRT less than 21".
Go buy a used flat-screen 21" CRT from www.accurateit.com. They are located right here in Columbus. So you won't have to pay for expensive shipping charges.
They also repair large CRT monitors as well.

Another thing to consider with LCDs is scaling. They do not scale nearly as well as CRTs. Hences, if you run a resolution under what the optimum is for the LCD, you typically run into distortion of the text, and the clearity and sharpness degrades. Also, DVI or a true digital connection is the only way to go, why convert digital signal to analog to convert it back to digital (this is what happens if you use the standard HDDB15 [VGA] pin connection for an LCD). I do second going true flat. It is a beautiful thing.

Flatscreen, or flat panel? My CRT monitor is flatscreen. :)
