Especially when people pulling a trailer won't go over 45mph.

How does that track compare (racing surface) to like NTR or Norwalk?

Were they more organized than NTR?

Did any big dog cars lose their oil and shut the track down for a while for cleanup?

Were there a lot of red necks there racing? Or were there a lot of spot compacts there?

Was it crowded? Did the DSM crew double the number of cars there?

It doesnt. The shut down is downright scary. It is bumpy and has what appear to be potholes. The traction is nill. I still managed 1.71 sixtys so I cant complain too much.

I guess its just as organized as NTR but they dont have a tech... at all. I could have run with a massive oil leak and an unsecured battery and no one would have noticed. :confused

One 9 second [fill in smart mikes old car here] was spraying the bejesus out of his car and blew something. Clean up didnt really take that long but i doubt they did a good job. The MPH optical sensor at the 1/4 mile was broken for a long time, they shut it down while they fixed it.

There are mostly rednecks there. Mikey over heard a racial slur mumbled at him last time he was there. There were relatively few imports and even fewer fast cars. Im confident jeff and I had the fastest street cars.

The wait to run was probably 30 minutes or so not counting the shut downs. Pretty reasonable.

Lets not forget about the cops reading us the riot act and then not even bothering to help us out. They could have tried a little harder to help! Oh well didn't get home until 2:00am. At least I know where the damn place is this time, owned by map quest and a little blondeness I'm sure.

The helmet in the passenger seat and the battery in the trunk.

Funny story:
After beating the hell out of my car last night, then driving 60 miles home and my car being more than a.ok... I drive the 2 blocks to work this morning, and notice steam bellowing out from under my hood. I opened it up and got squirted by leaky oil cooler coolant line that decided to rip on the treacherous 2 mile drive to the office.

My car likes abuse better.

It was a fun night. Everyone did awesome, especially Jeff and Ken. I realllllly didn't like following Jeff and his stinky clutch all the way home.. lol And for having 6 DSMers driving up together... if all that happened was a flat tire... I consider us lucky.

Not to start any fights or anything, but wouldn't you say that 16g is getting a little overworked? It can't be efficient w/ that much boost. But AMAZING times btw.

Mike C
06-20-2004, 12:15 PM
He was still picking up ET and MPH with slow increases of turning it up so I'd say no. 25PSI is certainly pushing its efficiency though.

Gunner
06-20-2004, 12:15 PM
Anyone who runs any kind of fast times with a 16g is running 25psi, if not more than that. Efficiency doesn't mean a damn thing as long as it's moving enough air at the track.

I wasn't really talking about the times, just merely the effieciency of the turbo-- and yes-- efficiency DOES mean a damn thing when your intake temps start rising extremely high because of hotass overworked turbo-- and you can't tune your car because of it. Once again-- i'm not trying to bad mouth his setup at all-- just merely starting a discussion. Anyone have the compressor maps of the turbo?

Found-- now this is actually of a 16g small-- but still:

http://cherrypicker.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/td05h-16gsmall-cfm.gif

475cfm @ 2PR @ 68%.
520cfm @ 2PR @ 60%.
525cfm MAX flow 2.3 @ 19psi.

Mike C
06-20-2004, 01:05 PM
I promise you that he will not go as fast in the 1/4 mile if he turned the boost down to 22PSI. I agree with you that higher intake temps will rob power but its a balancing act in a drag race situation. Sometimes, more hot air is better than less, cooler air (for a short amount of time).

I definitely think 25 psi is hitting the limit and I certainly wont ever be running more. It was my intention to run about 24 but its hard to gauge these things with turns of the wrist minutes before a run. Oh well. It worked well beyond my wildest expectations.

A little history of the turbo:

It was originally owned by jamie on his 2g. When he sold the car to baby drew he sold the 16g to Whitslow. Whitslow was soon looking for more power and found it in the form of a fp3055. I bought the 16g to replace my broken shaft 14b. Its a club whore with plenty of miles on it.

alot of theory gets thrown out the window at the track and with empirical data. Yes, it's out of the effieiciency range and making alot of heat, but for such a short duration of time it works great. A stock 14b is "inefficient" above 17 psi and the stock sidemount gets terrible heatsoaked after a pass, however note the countless 12 second time slips that DSM's have seen with higher boost on this setup. His supra sidemount must have been baking.

In all theory the turbo on my car should not even work. It should be incredilby laggy, if it ran at all. Technically it should just surge uncontrollably. Turns out it's a great street turbo with inredible spool and top end power.

What I never understood is why these Greddy/Drag/Revhard turbo kits for honda's run 18g or t3/t04e combinations, and run the a mere 4-6 pounds. That's inefficiency in my dictionary. But of course i understand the theory of overkill and leaving yourself for more potential in the future.

With my small 16G, I ran 114.X mph at 26 psi. Sure, it's a bit out of it's efficiency range, but it sure pulled fuckall harder than 22psi.

Sometimes, the bully can pack a mean punch.

my best MPH of the night was a 2.90 on the timeslip that said 13.7

yay! ;)

i hate my car.

Wrong turbo :p

Besides, how else do you propel a WWD spyder into the 13's on a T25? You crank the boost well beyond it's efficiency range (which it has probably surpassed at factory boost), cross your fingers and go. Not to mention Ken has the Poopra sidemount, yo!

Yup, all the rednecks were loving the little 4 cylinders. If you didnt notice, everytime Ken or Jeff would be staging, there would be a crowd around them, but then as soon as they were done the crowd would thin out. It was funny.
