Whenever I shift into second while making a left turn it grinds, no other time. What can cause that? I have a 94 tsi. This is probably not related, but I should also mention that I have really low oil pressure at idle and high oil consumption. (sigh) Anyway, I've adjusted the pedal and linkage every possible way imaginable and the cylinders are leaking at all. Any thoughts?

94' he should be fine.
Replace tranny fluid. Tighten shifter cables.

The trans. fluid was just replaced about 1k ago. As for the shifter cables, by tighten, do you mean shorten them? I thought that you were supposed to have them exactly on the pegs? How far off do you think it's safe to move them?

Heh, oh and please god don't say CW. Everytime I think about the (extremely remote) possibility I get afraid. :)

the bolts that hold them to the tranny. They get loose and the shifting gets yucky

Also check the bolts that hold the tranny to the engine block. Slim chance, but a possibility.

If only that would help. I should also mention that it only does it when shifting up from first, downshifting is really smooth (smoother in general on every gear). Is that normal?
And yes, the turning left thing does scare me. I did some reading today and I guess there have been some CWed 94s. And I thought I was safe. The horror.
The horror.

I've heard some of the '80's Cadillacs were prone to the CW bug as well. Seriously though, tighten the shifter cables on the tranny, and check and see what condition your motor mounts are in. It might be the way things are twisting while turninig left.
