I stopped at Advanced today and was shooting the shit with Jono. He looked up an oil filter for me and as we talked he mentioned drews dad came in a lot to get cases of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I asked him if he thought it was worth it and he says hell yes. He also mentioned that his very close friend has an 8-9 sec old ass muscle car that was having problems w/ its oil pressure dropping at the end of the quarter, then he added the oil stabilizer which stopped this issue. We've all seen the display and it looks like it really keeps the oil on the gears/or bearings. Now the way I look at it there could both be pros and cons to this.

Pros - Everything remains very well lubricated as a result of this product
- Its rather inexpensive if it works as well as the display indicates

Con - The added weight of the oil not being thrown off the crank/bearings would actually rob horsepower (i.e. along products like crank scrapers)

So what do you kids think? Does anyone use this? Gimmick or functional?

I used this a couple of oil changes ago. I noticed that my car was harder to start in the morning, especially colder mornings. It did seem to help quite the valve ticks a bit, but not that much, and warm up time seems to take a tad bit longer, too. I'm not sure if it's just a mental thing, but after I added the oil stabiler, acceleration "feels" heavier. I think it should help during the summer months though.

i think the stuff it great ESP. if u got a turbo unlike me aw it does keep EVERYTHING well lubed up yeah it does rob a lil bit of power but not too much but i would rather have my motor in very good shape and loose a slit bit of power then having a motor in the long run fail and getting that lil bit of UMPH

There is a website out there somewhere made by a guy who did a bunch of independent oil tests. Basically, the Lucas stuff caused excessive air bubble entrainment in the oil, (it got frothy). Any time that your oil pump takes a big gulp of air is a very bad thing. Air is compressible, oil is not (to a certain point). Just picture your crank journals losing their thin film oil ?cushion? because they received a shot of air bubbles instead of a pure liquid oil supply. Obviously if you shake up a quart of any oil, you will get some air bubbles in it. But the Lucas stuff (and some other additives like it) entrained way more bubbles and took days of sitting still for the amount of air bubbles in the oil to return to acceptable levels. This is also bad because it increases the overall oil level in the crankcase from the extra volume displacement of the entrained air. That causes even more windage losses since more of the crank is submersed, and can cause more oil to blow by the PCV?s and into the intake (just like if you had accidentally overfilled your oil). And I am sure that we all know how burning oil can push the engine over the edge of pre-ignition. I will try and see if I can find that link when I get the time.

So imo, unless you are having some real problems with your internals, and this is a last ditch effort of something to try before a tear down, I would stay away from it. A quality synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 or Royal Purple with the correct viscosity rating is really the best thing you can use. Synthetics are better then conventional oil at resisting viscosity and particulate breakdown at higher temps and pressures, which is an important thing in a turbo car that sees high oil temps and frequent abuse.

ps, sorry for the novel.

The stuff is just more witchcraft crap.

Thanks for the info. I'm returning the bottle later today :) I purchased Mobil 1 full syn 15w-50 at Walmart for 19.95(5 qt container). I more than likely will have shumway get amsoil for my next oil change and switch to this brand as i've heard a lot of good things about amsoil.
