I really want to get front and rear sway bars to finish up my suspension setup. I have a Thermal R&D exhaust and I thought I read somewhere that people have had problems with the rear sway bar with that exhaust system. I thought I had heard that they needed to make a custom mount for the one side of the sway bar.

I emailed the people that make the RM sway bars, and they have no idea. Anyone here ever use that setup or have any info on it?

Thanks,

Steve

Jeff would be the one to answer this because I think he has them himself btu i believe that they take stock location but are a little thicker...shouldnt interefere. what WOULD interfere are the lower bars that machV sells as add ons to your existing setup, like a strut bar for your lower suspension.

just some thoughts.

Actually, talk to Mike Black about this. Or, you could just use our website (http://www.columbusdsm.com/resources/knowledge_base/kb_00006_sway_bars.htm) :p

yes, all of the above is good advice. I have the RM's on, no problems with my Thermal, other than being difficult to get on. Prepare to use a jack to get them to fit, it's a nice, snug fit. But wow what a difference.

Steve,

Try Road Race Engineering rear sway bar. This thing is almost an inch in diameter with steel plates as arms. I put this on my wife's '96 Talon AWD and the car can be rotated nicely at the autox at a mere lifting of gas pedal. The front is stock with polyurethane bushings. Highly recommended.

Hey guys. Thanks for the info. I just wanted to find out what I was getting myself into because of having the Thermal exhaust. I've been eyeing those RM bars for awhile and this was the only thing holding me back. I'll take a look at those Road Race bars as well, but after the crappy fit of the turbo install kit that they sold me, I'm a little leary of those guys.

Thanks again!

I can honestly say that's the first bad thing I've ever heard about RRE. I have their rear strut tower bar, it's freakin' solid and fits perfect. The pipe for the GReddy front mount I bought from them needed to be trimmed a little to fit, but I've never had one problem with their products or their customer service. They are always willing to help/answer questions/etc.

I would say give RRE another chance, they are probably #2 in the country for DSM parts, behind Buschur (opinion, I have no proof of this).

I'm not trying to bash them or anything. I ordered a turbo install kit from them and the pipe that runs from the top down to the lower intercooler pipe had to have been wrong. I searched everywhere on the issue. Couldn't find squat. The weight that is on the front of the shift linkage would slam into the pipe everytime I put the car into gear. Hell, maybe I did something wrong, but it didn't seem like there was much chance of error. I had to spend 2 hours with the die grinder to grind off about 1/2 - 3/4" from the weight just so I had clearance. Plus the the oil feed line they sent me was so badly designed that coupling got stuck and I had to remove the other end of the line at the turbo just to get the line to spin off to fix a leak.

Maybe it was a fluke, but it was the first time I had ever bought anything from them, and I wasn't real impressed.

Hell, I just hijacked my own thread! :cuss

Sounds like it was a fluke... I have the oil feed line, mine is fine. The pipe, are you talking about the J-pipe? That I don't know about, I didn't need one. Chances are, too, if you were to e-mail Mike out there, they would take care of you. They always answered my questions and all my e-mails even before I ever bought anything from them, unlike Buschur. Buschur has the attitude that they won't answer an e-mail unless you've bought stuff from him. Even then, they don't. Case and point, my afpr. I ordered it from Buschur over a month ago, and they won't respond to e-mails regarding the order.

I've never had any problems with stuff from RRE. You should have called them or emailed them if you had a problem.

The RMDSM sway bars were no problem to install on my car. No hamering or anything to make them fit....they fit like a glove. The real problem was getting the old bars off....I had to use like a 5 foot breaker bar to loosen the bolt on the lower rear shock mount.

The instructions for the install were a little off on the point in having to jack the car real high to get the front bar on/off. The front bar kind of comes out behind/below the front left tire...maybe a couple of inches below the car and almost in that gap between the tire and the rear side of the fender well.
