ok, so I'm on my 2nd belt from the last belt change. The first one snapped the first day. This one is stretching like a madman. This happens every time I go to change my belts, I go through like 4 of them until I get a good one. Sooo, does anyone know where I could maybe pay a little extra for a nice belt that sucks much less than the one that I have now. Timing belts seem so much more substantial. Why can't I just use belts like that.

I would just use OEM belts if you can. I've heard too many horror stories of stock pulleys breaking because of overtightned belts. The AC belt gets thrown into the timing belt and makes it jump, and you know what happens next. That happened to one of my friends. Not good.
Dennis has the belts and they aren't much more than Autozone.

I broke 2 autozone specials myself. 2 alt belts for my 1g.
Stay away :)

Yeah, if you HAVE to use aftermarket belts from a parts store, your best best is probably NAPA. Their belts are made by Gates. Or look up Gates online and find a retail store that sells their belts.

I'll second NAPA/Gates as I've had zero problems with their accessory belts.

I can tear up Autozone belts like a mofo.... :huh .. All I have to say is make sure the pullies are on the *correct* direction... :finger Previous Owners.... :cuss
I believe Genuine Auto sells Gates belts and I've never had a problem with one.

Alright, I'll hit up napa on the way home. Can anyone point me to some pictures online for whether or not the pulleys are on right? I have the manual cd but it's hard for me to use it. I'll look when I get home (I'm at work) but I probably won't find it. Dead tree format is just too expensive.

Yeah it especially sucks when your A/C belt unwinds, wraps around your CV Joint and rips your support bearing out of the block ..
for example
Or when your timing belt almost gets eaten, and your cover has a holes from where the 2nd A/C belt shreads @ 7k. wtf
