Well I was having fun tonight. I swapped exhaust housings tonight on my 50 trim so the wife and I were out in the back roads of Grove City doing some datalogs. Everything was going so wonderful. 20 PSI 20 degrees timing advance at the top of 3rd, 1550-1600 EGTS. Well I decided to turn it up a little more to about 22PSI and at about 6000 RPM in 3rd gear, BANG and the engine dies :cuss I was fortunately able to get off the side of the road which wasn't fun with no power brakes and going about 100MPH. The first thing I thought was timing belt. Had no tools. Took the oil cap off and had the wife turn it over. Cams spin so I know it didn't break. Engine turns over but won't start. No unusual noises though. Get towed home. Do a compression test. 170-180 across. Didn't blow headgasket or throw a rod. It now starts to pour so I haven't been able to check anything else yet. Waiting to push it from the street into garage. I'm guessing either a fuse, alternator, or coil pack. I've been thinking my alternator might be on its way out anyway. I only get about 13 or so volts during operation and I know thats a little low. Question: Are 1g and 2g coil packs directly swappable? My next door neighbor has a 91 TSI so I could probably borrow his coil pack for troubleshooting. Oh well I guess I won't be going to NTR tomorrow. Hopefully its something simple. :thumb

did you blow a cupler on the IC piping?

I don't think the coil packs are interchangable. And It might be the cam angle sensor belt. It turns over but it doent know if the cams are moving, so it doesnt know when to give fuel, so it doesnt.

Problem fixed. The electrical harness to the coil pack came off. I haven't had it off for at least a year so what a fluke. It was barely unseated but as soon as I pushed it in it started right up. Oh well nice waste of a tow but at least it was something stupid. Now lets see what I can blow up tomorrow night at NTR :thumb

Im glad it was something small and not major. Too bad you didn't figure it out until after you got it towed.
