So who wants to help me tune my Evo? I know I can squeek a few more ponies out of it. I just need an extra set of hands, and brain. :D Money involved of course. Any takers?

get a obdII Data logger and you will be set. Up the boost and or lean it out until your timing gets ugly.
Youve got the EGT and the safc (i think) so youre well on your way.
The question is.... are you ready to take me on tomorrow night?

That's the thing. I was wondering if anyone had one they could hook up. :D I'm willing to pay for the time. I have a few questions to ask as well.
I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be. :thumb

If I were you, I would talk to the Quantum Racing guy in Marysville, last i checked he was very handy with the Evo 8. (You seen his car? very nice)

Quantum, oh yeah, the guy who wants you to shift your EVO at 5k rpm. Yeah, that sounds like a winner, not.
I'm sure the sleeper 16g killa, MIKE would be able to toon it up a bit. There really isn't much to it. Granted, i toon his car up and junk, but he's learned a thing or two. You just have to have the headlight popped up at the right angle and you're set. Anyone who runs 106mph in a full weight 1g has to have some clue what they're doing.

ahh, tuning's easy once you learn what to look for and what to do. :) Problem though, Rich, is the EVO is OBDII, so it might be better for a 2g tuner to help out, since we don't base our tuning on knock. Believe me, I'd rather tune for knock, because tuning for timing sometimes can be tricky. Not saying you or Mikey don't know how to tune by timing, just saying it *may* be easier for a 2g'er.

Sorry for not responding sooner guys. My RR was down all day yesterday. I just need someone that know's a thing or 2 to sit shotgun and help out and answer some dumb questions I have. :D
Off topic....anyone know about the AutoX going on at OSU Sat. and Sun.? I met a few guys at Meijer that are going. One had a 996 Turbo, the others an M3 and a Z06. They loved the Evo and couldn't beleive that all the goodies that are on the car came stock, not the stuff I put on. They said it was some kind of Championship race today so novice newbies, like myself, might want to hold off. :p 40 bucks for 3 runs. :eek

The auto-x is being held at the OSU airport. The entrance is off of 161 between Sawmill and Linworth. Look for the sign for Brookdown Dr on the north side of 161, then turn south (I think it's the entrance to the access road leading to the armory and OHP office).
As far as tuning, I'd be able to help a fellow EVO owner out. Mind you, I'm still learning myself on this one ;)

Thanks Jamie. I'm still learning as well. Speaking of, I just spent the last hour trying to get the damn header out. Took about 20 minutes to get the bolst out but after I did I figured out that there is no way to get the header out just by unbolting the header :rolleyes . Looks likt the 02 housing needs to come with it? And DAMN MITSUBISHI for making it so fucking hard to get to the fuckin bolts that keeps that shitty lower heat sheild on :cuss . If anyone is bored stop by. I'm only ripping parts out of my Evo in the driveway. :D
Also, what are everyones thoughts on drilling the EGT probe hole with the header on the car with trhotle at around 3k? Risk fuckin my turbo? I need to hurry up and finish this shit already. :rolleyes

Fist time I sat in the passanger seat for a ride :p . Hey Jamie, post your comments by all means :thumb . And thanks for answering all my dumbass questions today. I must have talked your damn ear off :o. We'll have to meet up again so I can bug you for some tunning help :D .

Lol, whatever gunner. I'll run my evo against any in the state. If you don't know the EVO then you might think that it's stupid to shift at 5.5krpm but note I said that is for STOCK ENGINE MANAGEMENT, fool. ;) :) Above that, an EVO on STOCK ENGINE MANAGEMENT drops the A/F to 10 to 1 or less. With engine management it's a different story as I tell everyone. My own EVO will be shifting at about 8500 rpm when it gets back together from the most recent round of mods. BTW, I have tuned plenty of local EVO's with my personal favorite piggyback, eManage, that are monster stock turbo EVO's.
If anyone needs an EVO tuned, I can do it right; weld a WB bung on your DP and tune it with my MoTeC PLM.

So do you even have an EVO?
If you are tuning EVO's, then you aught to know by now that running to redline is a waste of time on a stock EVO. EDIT: Nevermind, it wasn't you that made that comment.
What'cha got on your EVO? :)

I have a 115k mile stone stock 4g63, wanna race? Mandatory self imposed redline of 7k rpm. Saw 9654rpm once, but that was only once. Dollar for dollar I'm faster than you, always will be. My car is damn slow too. Perhaps you could set up a match race between you and David. Of course pump gas would be a requirement, and he's gone 12.2@115mph on pump gas with the stock turbo, motor, etc....... I'm sure you're faster though.
I'd still like to see some track times to bolster your 5k rpm shift because it goes into safe/running rich mode above 5k.
If I can't beat you, RSM's white knight will surely give you an ass whooping.

Calling cars beasts and saying you can tune is one thing, and one thing only.......HYPE. Timeslips tell the tale my friend, and they show results. That's about all I'm willing to listen to. Leave your bench at home.

This is EVO tech. Skip the DSM stuff. I know you are faster per dollar if you include the cost of the car; I am not stupid; I tune those cars as well and used to own them. I was a founding member of this very club in fact. Yes, I'd run David at this point and beat him, of course; on pump gas. I suspect it would be by 1/2 second or so at least. He just needs some time as does quite a few of my customers. My car isn't built for quarter mile so I don't really care if he does beat me. No doubt he will eventually. I have a few things he doesn't. I don't need a higher redline to make torque, though. It is just something that is useful with the head and manifold work. Sometimes carrying a gear out longer can be faster, but not on a strip; on a track.
If all I used was quarter mile times, many of my customers would be unhappy. Not everyone tunes the powerband for a straight .25 mile race. The EVO isn't designed for that. That being said, just look at the dyno proven loss in torque and power. The dyno doesn't lie; it doesn't make as much torque up there. Don't believe me, just ask any bone stock EVO owner what they think and what they lose to when they try running to redline.
That is the reason that engine management is pretty much one of the first things ppl do.
Peace, my friend. :) We are all on the same side; I am just trying to share some EVO tech. If someone wants to run for some reason, that's fine with me, but I must say that I don't drag my cars on a strip ever and rarely from a stop on the street. I like my tranny too much and don't feel it's worth blowing or stressing the tranny just for that. While I build some drag style cars, that isn't what my own personal machines are built for. I may give it a go once I think I'm in the 10's, however.

Wow, I never realized you were actually Shiv Pathetic from Vishnu. Numbers talk, BS walks. Post some numbers because mod for mod Pruven's nor AMS's stuff is not going to lose to you. They post dyno and 1/4 mile numbers all the damn time to let people know what works and what doesn't. I'm assuming you think you run 10's with your HK$ kit, and that's fine, but you wouldn't.
