drove normally today.

Parked it at 10pm, went back out here at 140 to go elsewhere....

The damn thing wont turn over.

I have spark, I have fuel to the rail, I have power turning the starter but I cant even get a studder or stumble like I could with the bad cam sensor.

Ideas??

so your car turns over?....just doesnt fire? you got spark and fuel. you could have a bad timing belt tensioner...and when you shut off it jumped time.....you could have a seriously clogged fuel filter and or injectors...or your CAS is fux0rz

took the cover off and timing belt looks/feels fine.

If the filter was clogged there would be trouble getting the fuel to the rail, I got plenty at the fpr.

Injectors could be.... but all of them.... all the sudden, thats fucked up.

Cas may be it..... a-freakin-gain

My sister was the one who tried to start it first, she said this:

It sounded like pebles ratteling around in something else. a clunking ratteling sound.

It doesnt make that sound now.

further inspection, a lil pop, not the "im about to start" kind of pop.

Timing belt is hard as a rock.... there was at leas a bit of slack before, but the cams still turn.

investigation with sunlight helps:

Shredded belts everywhere... the only one that looks to be intact, at least at the top... is the timing belt.

The lower cover took a beating but is also intact.

Crank pulley seperated to hell.

Threw the belts into complete chaos.

The lower timing cover is gone, the ac and alternator belt are shredded, and the crank pulley is obviously toast.

Can we get it back on the road in less than 24 hours, if jamie has he way, we sure will.

why wont it start though?

That has yet to be determined, the timing belt may very well have skipped some teeth.

Dont say seized balance shafts man! That definetly happened to me and my god worst thing in the world. I blew oil seals everywhere and it was very exspensive to fix!!

That sucks man. This has happened so many times.

A guy I know had a 1g and the pulley broke and threw the A/C belt into the the timing belt through the cover. You know what happens next. Really sucks.

I have the unorthodox 1 piece pulley so that won't happen to me, but I'll crankwalk instead.

At any rate, sorry to hear about your luck.

Pretty much the story. The AC belt went thru the cover some how and wound itself in the crank sprocket. The Belts skipped some teeth and bend all the exhaust valves only breaking two.

I have an extra 2g head sitting here in my room, its valves are getting pulled.

The order will go in for a new 4 layer head gasket and ARP Main bolts.

I need a 1g lower timing cover and crank pulley soon (Im on yours fitz) unless I find a good price on a light one.

I broke a mani to turbo bolt off in the exhaust housing too.... to a machine shop it goes.

Guestimate on down time: "2 weeks".

Ken man, I don't think your car likes you much. What do you do? Slap it around? Kick it? Jeez man. You have got some bad luck floating around that car. Good luck. Lemme know if you need the pulley.

so everybody is going to learn from this and check their crank pullies...right??

jplong
07-25-2003, 10:45 PM
nope...no need....A)no AC or PS belt.....B)my pulley wont have bad rubber in it to shred ...:)

So after blasting underdrive crank pullies last week, I do believe im going to use one. I dont want to deal with this again... and Ill get a few HP in the process. Not to mention the manual cams that will go in.

Balance shaft removal??

yes...now is the time...

Iwishiwascool
07-26-2003, 12:15 PM
how hard is it going to be with the motor still in there?

jplong
07-26-2003, 01:42 PM
considering you got the timing assy all out...or part out...it shouldnt be too hard.

ucsigep
07-26-2003, 01:50 PM
it'll prolly still be tough, but it will be easier with all that out of the way...

You need to update your sig as being the victim of a seperated crank pulley.

You need to update your sig as being the victim of a seperated crank pulley.

Victim of:
Crank walk, Blown tranny,
Failed Crank Pully, Valve crunch,
2 blown hubs, 2 blown axles,
2 blown clutches,
and one malicious pile of bricks.

Maybe you need to hit Refresh lol
