View Full Version : Slave Cylinder Restrictor Removal--Step by Step

While this shows the process for doing it with the EVO, it is very similar to removing it from any other DSM. The major difference is that you can reach a DSM slave cylinder from the underside relatively easy, but the underside panels on the EVO make it easier to come from the top.
Step 1) Remove air filter box cover and filter.

Step 2) Remove MAS/airbox assembly via the 10mm bolts holding the box down and the 10mm clamp holding the intake pipe to the MAS assembly. Unplug the MAS and undo the clip holding the wiring harness to the box.

Step 3) With the airbox out of the way you should be able to peek down and see the slave cylinder. Break loose the banjo fitting holding the clutch line to it (keep track of both crush washers). At this point fluid will begin to drain from the line--not much can be done except grab a rag ;) Undo the two bolts holding the slave cylinder to the tranny.

Step 4) The slave cylinder should be off the car and you should be able to see inside the hole where the banjo bolt fit. Grab a small flat-head screwdriver and fish out the spring and plastic restrictor. Once these two items have been removed, you are ready for reassembly. Slave cylinder to tranny; banjo bolt, crush washer, clutch line, crush washer, slave cylinder; bleed clutch line*; reattach MAS plug and harness clip; install intake clamp and airbox bolts; insert filter and cover; drive ;)
*NOTE: While the brake and clutch reservoirs are within the same housing, the fluid is not shared. There is a divider within that separates the two. From the front, this gives the appearance that fluid is present to bleed the clutch line, but that is not the case. You will need to add fluid to the reservoir prior to/during the bleeding process.
